Welcome

Welcome to the TANC2 Foundation website. TANC2 Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by TANC2-related disorders. TANC2 is a protein-coding gene found on chromosome 17 that is important in the function of brain cells. Disorders happen when there is a change to the TANC2 gene that keeps it from working as it should.

 Mission

Our mission is to provide support, education, and awareness to the TANC2 community while promoting research to better understand and develop treatments for this condition.

TANC2 Foundation is exempt from US federal income tax under Internal Revenue Code (IRC) Section 501(c)(3) as a public charity. EIN #93-348351.

TANC2
TANC2 (Tetratricopeptide Repeat, Ankyrin Repeat And Coiled-Coil Containing 2) is a protein-coding gene. The TANC2 gene encodes a synaptic scaffolding protein that interacts with other proteins at the postsynaptic density to regulate dendritic spines and excitatory synapse formation (summary by Guo et al., 2019).

When there are changes to the gene (deletions, duplications, other variants), TANC2-related disorders can happen.

TANC2-Related Disorders

According to Simons Searchlight*, because the TANC2 gene is important in the development and function of brain cells, many people who have TANC2-related syndrome have:

  • Autism
  • Intellectual disability
  • Delayed language
  • Delayed motor development
  • Seizures
  • Epilepsy
  • ADHD
  • Psychiatric disorders
